The September 11 kamikaze in the US has changed the lives of many Indian Americans, who are now more obsessed with news and 24-hour news channels. This was revealed by Ram Kelkar, who heads a group of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumni working with various firms in the US. "The 9/11 incidents are definitely not forgotten, especially by those who were in New York," he told UNI through e-mail. "Without ever forgetting those who were lost, the indomitable nature of the human spirit ensures that life goes on. And this is the best answer to the cowardly evildoers, who attacked innocent people in New York a year ago," he said. "Most of us," Kelkar said, "are either sending or receiving articles and news clippings by e-mail each and every day about these issues, especially articles tied to Indian interests. "I have seen several Indians glued to news Web sites. The new interest is heightened in view of the news about India, Pakistan and extremist Islamic movements. "Many of the Indian Americans are 'actively lobbying' with US senators and Congressmen to make sure that India's viewpoints are forcefully presented to these decision-makers. "I am certain that this newly vocal community of Indian Americans have already had an impact on the US policy towards South Asia," he said. |
